Made for an aircraft to spot a vessel day or night. They are that bright at 15,000 cd. They are out of date per coast guard regs but they all work. They have so many purposes. They are great to go camping with, keep in the boat, Auto glove box, etc. Use them for what they were made for Search & Rescue, Emergencies. Also great for lighting wood on fire. No matches needed. Unscrew the red cap which exposes a pull cord. Pull the string and hold. They burn for 1 minute super hot and bright. There are many uses for these. Outside label may change but flare is the same.
